The TCS variable pay percentage is the share of total compensation kept as a performance-linked payout, reported at 15% to 20% for senior staff. Divide the annual amount by four for one quarter, then apply the attendance slab and the business-unit payout share.

What is the TCS variable pay percentage of your CTC?

It is the variable slice of total pay, reported at 15% to 20% for senior staff (Reported; Outlook Business, 2025). Your own share is fixed in your offer letter, not by any rule of thumb.

How to work out one quarter’s eligible amount step by step

Four steps: take your CTC, multiply by your variable share, divide by four, then apply your attendance slab. QVA is the quarterly, performance-linked part of pay (People Matters, July 2025). The table shows two illustrations, not real payslips.

Illustrative CTC Variable share Annual variable One quarter eligible Paid at 100% Paid at 75% Paid at 50% Paid at 0%
₹12,00,000 15% ₹1,80,000 ₹45,000 ₹45,000 ₹33,750 ₹22,500 ₹0
₹25,00,000 20% ₹5,00,000 ₹1,25,000 ₹1,25,000 ₹93,750 ₹62,500 ₹0

How much does each attendance slab cost you?

Attendance sets the share since Q1 FY25: below 60% pays nothing, 60% to 75% half, 75% to 85% three-quarters, 85% and above the full amount (Angel One, 25 May 2026). More on slabs and grades is in the grades and attendance rules.

Why your payout is smaller than the figure in your offer letter

The offer-letter figure is the full-year, full-attendance maximum. Business-unit performance applies too: reported payouts ran 20% to 80%, and nothing for grade C3A and above in the September 2026 quarter (Reported; Business Standard, 10 October 2026).

What does a zero payout quarter cost over a full year?

A withheld quarter removes that quarter’s eligible amount outright. On the ₹45,000 illustration above, one zero quarter is ₹45,000 less across the year. Variable pay is also taxed (how variable pay is taxed).

How to build a yearly budget when the variable part moves

Budget on your fixed pay and treat every payout as a bonus when it lands, so a weak quarter never breaks the month.

Where the variable part should sit in your money plan

Keep the variable part out of fixed commitments like rent and EMIs. In short: know your TCS variable pay percentage, size one quarter from it, and plan around the fixed base.

What percentage of CTC is variable pay?

Reported at 15% to 20% for senior staff; your own TCS variable pay percentage is set in your offer letter (Outlook Business, 2025).

How do I calculate my quarterly variable allowance?

CTC times your variable share, divided by four, then adjusted for your attendance slab and the business-unit payout share.

Is variable pay part of CTC or paid over and above it?

It is part of CTC, not extra. The fixed part is what reaches you regardless of performance.

How much variable pay do you get at 70% office attendance?

70% falls in the 60% to 75% band, so you get half the eligible amount (Angel One, 25 May 2026).

Does a zero payout quarter reduce your annual CTC?

CTC stays the same on paper, but received pay drops by that quarter’s eligible variable amount.

Should I include variable pay in my monthly budget?

Better to budget on fixed pay and treat any payout as a bonus when it actually arrives.

How much of a salary hike is fixed and how much is variable?

Reported 2026 hikes ran 5% to 8%, up to 10% to 13% for top bands; the variable split depends on your offer (Mint, People Matters, 25 May 2026).

Where can I confirm my own variable pay structure?

Check your offer letter and HR policy; official company results are on TCS investor relations.
