The SS Retail IPO was subscribed nearly 17 times by midday on its closing day, 18 September 2026, led by retail bids of about 16 times. The Rs 500 crore mainboard issue, priced at Rs 403 to Rs 424, closes today and lists on the NSE and BSE on 23 September.

Retail leads as the final-day book fills

Demand built slowly, then quickened. The issue opened at 1.44 times on Day 1, moved to 5.78 times on Day 2, and reached close to 17 times by the middle of the closing day, according to exchange subscription data.

Retail was the front runner at about 16 times, and the wealthy or HNI category was also active. Institutions, whose bids are counted apart from the anchor book, tend to arrive in the last hours, as they often do.

Bidding day Overall subscription
Day 1 (16 September) 1.44 times
Day 2 (17 September) 5.78 times
Day 3 (18 September, by midday) About 16.9 times

Before the issue opened, SS Retail raised Rs 146.39 crore from 22 anchor investors on 15 September, with fund houses including ICICI Prudential and Kotak among the buyers. What the grey market makes of the story is the next question.

What is the SS Retail IPO grey market premium saying?

The grey market premium, or GMP, is the extra amount some traders are willing to pay for IPO shares in an informal market before listing. For SS Retail it jumped from Rs 30 on 10 September to a peak near Rs 140 by 14 September, then swung between roughly Rs 100 and Rs 137 through the closing day.

Read that with caution. GMP is unofficial, unregulated and not published by any exchange, and it does not forecast the actual listing price, which is decided only by demand on listing day. Premiums can swing hard once an issue opens, as they did for Xtranet Technologies, whose GMP halved from its peak, and a real debut can still land above the grey market, as it did for Caliber Mining.

A mobile shop chain that reached 503 stores

SS Retail sells mobile phones, accessories and other electronics through brands such as SS Mobile, Mobile Exchange Wala and The Mobile Space. It works mostly on a franchise-led model across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Gujarat, with a focus on Tier II and Tier III cities.

Its network grew from 236 stores in March 2024 to 503 stores across 215 cities by March 2026. The company plans 120 new stores in each of FY27 and FY28, and its prospectus earmarks about Rs 241 crore of the fresh money for working capital rather than store fit-outs.

Financial (FY26) Value
Total income Rs 2,352.85 crore
EBITDA Rs 125.15 crore
Net profit Rs 59.28 crore
Stores (March 2026) 503 across 215 cities

At the Rs 424 upper price, the shares are valued near 53 times earnings, a rich tag for a thin margin retailer, though its return on net worth of about 33 percent points to an asset light model. It is bidding in the same busy week as the far bigger NSE IPO and other anchor backed issues.
